Created in 2002 by Claise M’Passi, Azaria is the “central” group of the dance school Heman. Incontrovertible actor of the French Hip Hop movement, it’s one of the first female professional crew.
Stayed in the shadow for many years training, Azaria has participated since 2004 in different festivals and has presented its creations on the stage of famous theatres like La Villette or Suresnes. The year 2006 is marked by the victory of the company in its first national contest (Dance Delight). This victory has leaded the group, the following year, to the international final in Tokyo where it has received the jury’s special honor.
Azaria is part of those companies with a unique personality. Five strong, dynamic and rigorous women wisely guided by Claise M’Passi.
The particularity of the company is to be one of a kind. Dancing on unexploited music, while executing on original choreography, far from the preconceived rules of Hip Hop, Azaria has created its own identity.
“No difference between what a male and female dancer can do”.
Work on the musicality, the rapidity and the synchronization: three major axes which allow the group, thanks to the unique vision of their choreographer, to break the physical barriers. Dance is an art not a battle of the Sexes.
Nowadays, the company is empowered to say that it completely master several styles: pop, lock, new style, afro, jazz-rock, but all that with its own touch.
More than a simple group, Azaria is a family. It has been 10 years than the dancers have known each other and have worked together. No longer colleagues, they become sisters. What they convey on stage is what they have already experimented in real life. This is together that they have overcome difficulties, battles and sadness but have also shared the joys of life. Moments that creates that remarkable unity that Azaria Symbolized.
